Redecorating can be a very intimidating process. There are just so many elements to consider when you set out to redecorate a space that it is difficult to know where to even start. Worse yet, redecorating costs money, often a lot of money. Thus people can simply be paralyzed by both indecision and fear of spending too much. To help you get a jump start on developing a new look for your space, here are five very easy and relatively inexpensive steps you can take to give your room a whole new vibe in very little time at all.
1. It’s All About Pillows
Yes, pillows, cushions, and anything else that is padded, upholstered, and portable can be easily and inexpensively replaced. Just by placing a few pillows on your sofa, love seat, or bedding, you can instantly add color to even the most drab of rooms, and you can usually do it for under one hundred bucks. Not too bad a price to pay for such a quick and easy change.
2. Out With the Old — Drapes That Is
Your drapes are usually the most neglected element in your decor. And due to this neglect, they often get filthy, stained, and faded. New drapery does not need to cost that much, and just tossing up new window treatments takes very little time to do. It s easy to find some great drapes for not much money at all. Check your local Target or even Walmart to see what they have to offer. Ikea is also a wonderful place to find beautiful, stylish drapes for not much money, so if you happen to live near an Ikea store, be sure to check them out too.
3. Think About a Throw
Throws are another extremely inexpensive way to add color to many different types of spaces. You can toss one on an old couch to cover up worn or stained spots. You can also lay or fold one on a bed for added color and a spare covering for cold nights. Throws are very versatile, and they are usually very cheap and easy to find too. You can usually spot great deals on Amazon or Ebay.
4. Clean Those Carpets
It’s amazing what a simple carpet cleaning can do to a room. Stained, flat rugs and carpets can suddenly look new again. And new looking rugs can give your room a totally sharper appearance. Rug cleaning is especially effective when combined with new or cleaned window treatments.
5. Swap Out Those Old Lights
Don’t forget about your lighting. Changing your lighting fixtures can be about the simplest way to give any space a totally different look. Lighting illuminates all your other design elements, and a new fixture can really make a room look different. Consider a designer fixture like those made by Artemide.
